Ridgeline Middle School Art Program

Art Club

RMS After School Art Club

Informational Packet

Students will encounter a variety of mediums and techniques that typically cannot be taught in an average art classroom due to size and funding restraints, such as glass fusion, t-shirt screen printing, and many more activities. Students will also participate in field trips to galleries, museums and artist studios. The goal of the club is to educate students about the local artist communities, participation with exhibitions of student art work, and of course having fun creating cool artwork.

All grade levels at RMS can join the after school Art Club. Participation in the Art classes at Ridgeline Middle School is not required. However, these classes are recommended due to the studio knowledge taught in the art courses. Maximum group size for the after school program will be 24 students, maximum group size for fieldtrips would be 15-20 students with 1 chaperone per 4-5 students. There is a materials fee of $10 per Semester for this club. A years subscription to Art Club is $20. Please pay the fee to Ms. Minor by September 30th. Make checks payable to Ridgeline Middle School.

The art club will meet twice per week for two hours after school and one Saturday per month for field trips to local galleries.

***The after school meeting times will be from 2:15 pm until 4: 20 pm. There is not an activities bus available this year. All transportation must be set up by student’s guardian.**

The Saturday fieldtrips will vary in times due to location of the activity. Typically, the fieldtrips will run eight hours including the transportation time for galleries and museums in Tacoma and Seattle. Fieldtrips to local galleries in Yelm and Olympia will typically run six hours including transportation time. Transportation for the Saturday fieldtrips will be furnished by the Yelm Community Schools vans. There may be a fee necessary for the weekend fieldtrip transportation.

Supervision after school will be provided by Ms. Baar. Ms. Baar is a certified teacher employed by Yelm Community Schools and is the Art Specialist at Ridgeline Middle School. The Art Club would like to give a special thank you to the iCreate grant who made this years art club possible. Students will pay for any transportation and material fees. Students will also be responsible for providing money for museum admissions (usually $3-60 and  their own lunches during the Saturday fieldtrips. Chaperones will be on a volunteer basis and will be secured a minimum of five days in advance of an activity. If you are interested in volunteering either during the after school session or the fieldtrips please fill out the attached volunteer form and contact Ms. Baar at 458-1100 ext. 11420 or email: ebaar@ycs.wednet.edu .

.

Examples of Activities:  Students will learn pottery/ceramics, glass casting, screen printing, metal casting, and framing techniques and create art pieces to be peer critiqued and exhibited in local galleries. Students will participate in fieldtrips to The Olympia Art Walk, The Yelm Art Walk, Seattle Art Museum, The Tacoma Art Museum, The Tacoma Glass Art Museum, Bronze Works, Monarch Sculpture Park, exhibitions in local galleries, and visits to local artists’ studios. During these fieldtrips students will learn of potential careers in the arts, studio practices, and critiquing skills.
